Le seachtain anuas tá scéal iontach faighte ag Gaelscoil Riabhach, scéal lena raibh muid ag súil leis na blianta. Cuireadh bord bainistíochta na scoile ar an eolas go bhfuil an Roinn Oideachais agus Scileanna i ndiaidh glacadh lena iarratas um fhoirgneamh scoile buan 12-oide a thógáil agus go bhfuil an Roinn tosaithe ar shuíomh úr don scoil a aimsiú.
Gaelscoil Riabhach, Loughrea’s multi-denominational Irish-medium primary school, has received some long overdue news from the Department of Education and Skills in the past week. The school’s board of management have been informed that the school’s application for a permanent 12-teacher school has been accepted and that the Department has commenced the immediate acquisition of a suitable greenfield site for the construction of the school.
Bunaíodh Gaelscoil Riabhach i Meán Fómhair 2000 agus tá forbairt tagtha uirthi ‘chuile bhliain ó shin. Tá rogha oideachais á tairiscint ag an scoil sa gceantar, le gach ábhar múinte trí mheán na Gaeilge (seachas an Béarla). Chomh maith le sin tá sí ar cheann de na céad scoileanna ilchreidmheacha in iarthar na hÉireann. Faoi láthair ta foirgnimh shealadacha ag an scoil i gCois Carraige, in iarthar an bhaile, áit a bhfuil tar-éis áiseanna iontacha a fhorbairt. Ní leor cóiríocht reatha na scoile, áfach, chun dul i ngleic le clárúcháin tuartha na scoile amach anseo. Mar sin, tá an scoil curtha san áireamh sa gclár chaipitiúil €2.2 billiún atá beartaithe ag an Roinn thar an gcéad trí bliana eile.
Gaelscoil Riabhach was established in September 2000 and has grown each year. The school offers educational choice in the area with all subjects (except English) being taught through the medium of Irish. The school is also one of the first multi-faith schools in the west of Ireland. At present the school is accommodated in temporary buildings in Coscarrig, in the west of the town, where the school has developed excellent facilities. The present school buildings, however, are insufficient to deal with future predicted enrolments and the Department of Education and Skills have therefore included the building of a new building for Gaelscoil Riabhach in the Government’s €2.2 billion capital budget over the next three years.
Tá Bord Bainistíochta na scoile i mbun feachtais le deich mbliana anuas don fhaomhadh seo agus tugadh tacaíocht ollmhór don chruinniú deireanach a shocraíodh chun aitheantas na Roinne a bhaint amach. Tá an bord fíor-bhuíoch do thuismitheoirí na scoile thar na blianta agus braitheann an bord gur luach saothair é an fógra seo dá dtiomantais. Gabhann an bord buíochas freisin leis an Aire Ciarán Cannon, Colm Keaveney T.D. agus an Cllr. Trevor Ó Clochartaigh as freastal ar an gcruinniú agus as a gcuid tacaíochta. Tá an bord ag iarraidh go mbeadh scoil nua-aimseartha tógtha gan moill agus cinnteofar é seo amach anseo.
The Board of Management has been campaigning for this approval for the last ten years and their recent meeting to push for approval was supported by a large turnout of parents. The Board is greatly appreciative of the support of the school’s parents over the last decade and feel that this announcement by the Department is a just reward for their commitment. The Board also wish to thank Minister Ciarán Cannon, Colm Keaveney, T.D. and Cllr. Trevor ó Clochartaigh for attending the meeting and for their continued support on this project. The Board envisages that the project to build our new modern school building will be progressed with urgency and intend to continue with our campaigning to ensure that this is so.
